We're proud of our green products – and of the work we're doing as a company. Green initiatives impact every aspect of our business. It's why our Rockford, IL facility has just been certified ISO 14001:2004!

The ISO (International Organization for Standardization) 14001 requires that an organization implement a series of practices and procedures that result in an environmental management system. Ultimately, benefits of this certification include:

  • Improved environmental performance and compliance
  • Increased efficiency and potential cost saving
  • More predictability and consistency in managing environmental obligations
  • Enhanced public posture with outside stakeholders
 

Green Packaging Awards

Awarded first ever Clean Manufacturer Award

"We are pleased to announce that J.L. Clark has been awarded the first ever Clean Manufacturer Award from Greener Package (www.greenerpackage.com), the online sustainable packaging knowledge exchange from the publisher of Packaging World Magazine. Judges for this competition were experts from across the packaging value chain utilizing categories and criteria that were specifically designed and uniquely suited to packaging sustainability.

"This award marks the third time that J.L. Clark has been recognized as a leader in adopting aggressive 'Green' manufacturing practices in our facilities. It reflects the extremely strong accomplishments of our employees and the rapid adoption of the values that have proactively moved us forward in our journey of sustainability, while maintaining our position as a leader in the packaging industry."

Green packaging starts with green processes.

Here are some of the most recent green successes at J.L. Clark:

Sustainable Activity Savings
Reduced water usage: All water-cooled air compressors are now on a closed-loop system.
A flow-through filter is installed on printing press used for metal lithography.		 8.1 million gallons of water saved per year.

Waste water reduced from 3,000 gallons per year to just 45 gallons per year.
Energy use reduction: Installation of a Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO) A 30% reduction in natural gas usage; capture and destruction of emissions.
Carbon footprint reduction: Upgraded lighting in fabrication and warehouse. Reduction of carbon emissions by 588,091 lbs/year; saving the equivalent of 80 acres of forest every year; or removing 51 cars per year from the roads.
Reduced shipping: Shipping resin in railcars instead of trucks. Save 83.2 tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year; eliminating 2,240 corrugated Gaylord boxes from the waste stream.

 

Winnebago County Green Business Award

What an incredible honor to receive the "Winnebago County Green Business Award" for 2008 - and then their award for Continued Excellence in 2009! J.L.Clark has been recognized locally for incorporating practices into our business that will reduce our footprint on the environment. Our Green Team meets regularly to recognize and implement green practices such as: these:

  • New oxidizing equipment to reduce emissions from our plant.
  • Energy efficient lighting throughout our facilities.
  • Preventing waste through recycling and waste-prevention programs.
  • Purchasing from vendors that supply recycled products.
  • Packaging product to maximize truck space and reduce fuel costs and emissions.
  • Scheduling shifts into four-day work weeks to reduce energy usage.
  • Reducing transportation costs by using electric forklifts, shipping resin by railcar, implementing new travel standards as well as utilizing video- and web-conferencing whenever possible.
  • Working with local organizations to develop educational programs regarding green/sustainability in our community.

J .L. Clark is very proud to have accomplished these steps toward sustainability and our Green Team pledges to continue developing and implementing change for the better. We would encourage our customers and vendors to incorporate steps, large or small, into their everyday business practices that will ensure a cleaner, greener planet for future generations.
