Steel is the number one recycled material. Recycled more annually than paper, plastic, aluminum, and glass combined. In fact, in order to produce new steel, the steel making process requires more than 35% of the mix to be recycled steel. The energy saved through recycling reduces the the annual energy consumption of the industry by 75%, enough energy to power eighteen million homes for one year. In response to the increase in demand for LCI data on steel products, the Worldsteel Organization has released a presentation on the lifecycle assessment of steel and its use in a sustainable world.
